To mark 50 years since we triumphed at the World Cup on 30 July 1966, there are a host of activities planned across the country for footie fans to celebrate that glorious victory and reminisce about a time when English football could rightfully claim to be the best the world has to offer. With the Euros also approaching (10 June – 10 July), the country will be awash with football fever, so team up, take part and help keep the memory of 1966 alive as well as look to football’s future. Revel in the ‘1966: Still Gleaming’ exhibition, National Football Museum, Manchester

50 years on from England’s golden summer, put yourself in the middle of the action with a unique exhibition from the National Football Exhibition. With stories from the people who made, played and watched the games of the iconic tournament, this exhibition celebrates England’s success and looks at the legacy of that win. The 1966 Jules Rimet trophy and ball from the final are at the heart of the exhibition and new immersive technology will recreate the atmosphere of Wembley on that famous day, giving visitors their own seat in the final. A spectacular live stage show for all the family retells the incredible story of England’s historic World Cup through current reflections and historic footage live in real time from the SSE Arena. The ground breaking stage show will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 and relayed to cinemas from the SSE Arena, yards from where the original game was played. Kick-off is at 3pm – exactly 50 years to the minute later! You can then head through the backstreets of London to discover three of the capital’s oldest pubs (between them they have survived the Great Fire of London, Second World War bombs and post modernisation) and learn all about the brewing process and have the chance to sample some beers.
