Click Mechanic recently asked its customers which essential items they carry in their car at all times, which threw up some interesting insights. In their latest newsletter, we take a closer look at the essentials so you can stay ahead of the game when it comes to being fully prepared on your next car journey.
- Legally required items:
Make sure you stay on the right side of the law by having easy access to your driving licence, MOT and insurance certificate. You don’t need to have them with you, but in case you are stopped by the police and can’t present these you will need to take them to your local police station within 7 days to avoid a fine. - Safety equipment:
There is no legal requirement to carry safety equipment with you in the UK, however they can be required in other countries and can help you get out of a pickle. Our customers highlighted the importance of a reflecting high-visibility vest, a warning triangle, fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. - Repair and maintenance equipment:
It’s always helpful to carry a few repair and maintenance essentials with you like a basic tool kit, bulbs, jump start cables, car jack and a spare tyre or puncture repair kit (in case your vehicle isn’t fitted with run flat tyres). - Other useful items:
It’s always a great idea to carry a torch, a blanket, some water and non-perishable snacks in your car, especially when you go on a longer drive.
