Proving that content is king – no matter how it’s consumed
Dror Ginzberg, Co-Founder & CEO of Wochit said on the 35th anniversary of MTV:
“On its launch 35 years ago MTV changed the broadcast TV landscape. It was the first channel dedicated to music and youth culture. Throughout its existence it has constantly changed to fit the evolving media landscape; most notably creating its own reality-based programming instead of just focusing on music. Shows such as “Jackass” dominated the television network and ushered the broadcaster’s relevance into the 21st century.”
“However, with television viewership across the world now on a permanent decline and with the rise of online video streaming, content providers such as MTV need to look at new options to reach these audiences. With its syndication of its widely popular show ‘Scream’ on Netflix, it has already tapped into the 75 million viewers that Netflix garners worldwide – hitting a much greater global audience. In addition MTV have taken advantage of the 150 million daily users of Snapchat – launching the first exclusive series for the platform titled ‘Pants Off’.”
“This strategy speaks to a stark change taking place in viewers’ habits; with consumers watching, on average, more than five hours of video per day, video is the single most popular media activity. This growth in popularity is expected to continue to skyrocket with predictions that by 2017 video will account for 69% of all consumer internet traffic.”
“MTV’s future is bright, as it has always realised that content is king – no matter how it’s consumed.”
