Denise Broady has been working at home for over 25 years and doing so has become rather accomplished. Starting out as a refugee, she impressed and was so productive that she eventually became the COO of a Fortune 500 company.
She is currently the the COO at WorkForce Software, noted author on risk and compliance, performance management and business intelligence: GRC for Dummies (2008) and Driven to Perform (2009) and has written for several top media outlets including Forbes. She also runs a discussion group of over 1000 recognized female leaders.
Denise has many pointers that has worked well for her and she would like to share that with others (especially many who have recently been forced to work remotely due to the Corona Virus).
Here’s a sample of what she can lectures and mentors on the subject:
- Importance of having a daily schedule and priorities
- To-do list of daily activities and priorities
- Use technology such as Teams, Zoom, Slack, etc to stay motivated and connected
- Having a dedicated work space – this is especially hard for folks that have not worked in a home office set-up before…sitting at a dining room table can be distracting
- Make sure your day begins and ends at consistent times
- Plan your day as you if you are going into an office
- Get dressed
- Plan lunch meals
- Minimize distractions – use the video camera to stay focused
- Plan for unexpected or lack of child care support (especially for parents with young kids)
- Plan social and dedicated breaks
- Take a walk
- Have virtual coffees/happy hour.
